FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 12, 2007, Darien, CT -- On Thursday, August 23, 2007 former Darien resident Ryan Shannon, a member of the 2007 Stanley Cup Anaheim Ducks Hockey Club, will be bringing the Stanley Cup to Darien for a Homecoming Celebration. Save the morning to visit with Ryan and the Cup at the Darien Ice Rink (55 Old Kings Highway North) detail to follow. This event is open to the public.

“In an effort to give back,” Shannon said he has organized the event to honor Darien resident Obie Harrington-Howes, his first hockey coach. Shannon said Obie was “one of the people I credit with instilling in me a passion for the game.”

Harrington-Howes was paralyzed in a swimming accident on July 4, 1997 at Jones Beach in New York. The Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation was set up to help him and others with spinal cord injuries. Visitors at the rink will be asked to make a voluntary contribution to the Foundation.

For further information, please contact the Foundation at (888)265-5859 or P.O. 2221, Darien, CT 06820.
